Many males have excess tissue in the chest area that makes them feel uncomfortable with their own bodies.  There are a number of causes of gynecomastia (male breasts); however, it is often considered idiopathic (no identifiable cause).  Once certain abnormalities have been ruled out as a cause for a patient’s gynecomastia, they may be a candidate for male breast reduction surgery.  Dr. Greenwald has performed gynecomastia surgery on many patients from Fairfield County, Connecticut at his private facility in White Plains, New York.

The goal of male breast reduction surgery is to restore a more masculine appearance to the patient's chest via removal of excess fat and breast tissue in the chest area.  Often times, liposuction may be sufficient to re-contour the chest.  Depending on the firmness of the tissue, a small incision may be required under the areola to remove the firmer breast tissue that may not be amenable to liposuction.  Often, a combination of both liposuction and direct breast tissue excision may be required to achieve the best possible recontouring of the chest. On occasion, particularly in cases of severe gynecomastia, an aggressive liposuction may be followed months later by recontouring of the breast skin.

Gynecomastia surgery on patients from  Fairfield County, Connecticut (Greenwich, Danbury, Darien, Stamford, Norwalk, Westport, Fairfield).  is usually performed under twilight anesthesia in Dr. Greenwald’s private operating facility in White Plains, New York.  Surgery usually takes between 1 and 2 hours.  Patients are placed in a compressive garment for about two weeks.  Most of the swelling from liposuction resolves by about 4 weeks and swelling continues to resolve for the next several months.  For patients with minimal gynecomastia, their procedure may be performed under local anesthesia.
