Connecticut plastic surgery

Dr. Greenwald did a three-year plastic surgery residency at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia after training in general surgery at New York University.  Many of the techniques used in breast reconstruction today were pioneered and/or devised at Emory and Dr. Greenwald had the fortune to train under some of the foremost plastic surgeons in the world.  He has brought these skills in breast reconstruction back to his patients from Fairfield County, Connecticut. In addition to his cosmetic surgery practice, Dr. Greenwald maintains a busy breast reconstruction practice.  Dr. Greenwald finds great satisfaction in restoring a woman’s breast after breast cancer surgery. In the paragraphs below, Dr. Greenwald provides an overview of breast reconstruction and options available to you.  Nothing learned on this website replaces the knowledge you will gain from a breast reconstruction consultation with Dr. Greenwald at his White Plains, New York cosmetic plastic surgery practice.

Breast Reconstruction in  Fairfield County, Connecticut: Greenwich, Danbury, Darien, Stamford, Norwalk, Westport, Fairfield

Breast reconstruction is performed on patients who require removal of a portion of a breast and for patients who require the complete removal (mastectomy) of one or both breasts.   Breast reconstruction is usually performed at the time of the mastectomy or lumpectomy in conjunction with the oncologic breast surgeon.  There are certain instances where breast reconstruction may be optimally performed in a delayed fashion.  In order to determine which surgical approach is the best for each patient, Dr. Greenwald conducts a thorough pre-surgical consultation carefully evaluating the overall medical status of each Fairfield County, Connecticut breast reconstruction patient.  Not all patients seeking breast reconstruction are candidates for breast reconstruction (most are); however, all patients undergoing removal of breast tissue should at least have a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon to discuss their reconstructive options.

Breast reconstruction falls into two broad categories: 1) Use of a patient’s own tissue typically from the back or stomach 2) Implant-based reconstruction (placing a silicone breast implant to replace the breast mound).  Sometimes, a combination of techniques may be recommended for optimal results.  The use of alloderm (a skin substitute) has recently become popular in implant-based breast reconstruction.  Dr. Greenwald routinely uses this in his implant-based reconstructions and it has helped him achieve more natural results.

Dr. Greenwald approaches each breast reconstruction patient with compassion and respect as he understands it is a stressful time for the patient and their families.  To learn more about your breast reconstruction options in Fairfield County, Connecticut, please contact our office via phone or email.
